Original, very fine and rare, eight-day going OMEGA “Deluxe” Dead (Jump) second table chronometer clock, Ref. 5506, Cal. 120 (59.8-D SCS), made circa late 1940s, early 1950s. Featuring a pierced foliage decoration hand-cut by Jean-Pierre Matthey-Claudet on a pastel BLUE Chinese lacquer background. Was advertised as “..the only chronometer clock with 8-day, 20-jewel movement. In design distinguished for home or office, it is a lasting gift, destined to become a family heirloom. With smooth back suitable for personal inscription..”.

C. Square brushed gilt brass, fluted sides, turned feet, fretwork foliate brushed gilt plate hand-cut by Jean-Pierre Matthey-Claudet over blue Chinese lacquer surrounding the dial. D. Matte silvered with applied gilt baton indexes and Arabic quarter-hour numerals, outer minute track with Arabic five minutes/ seconds numerals. Gilt feuille/leaf hands. M. Cal. 120 (aka 59.8-D SCS), copper-colored, 20 jewels, indirect center seconds mounted on the backplate, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial and movement signed. Dim. 13 x 13 x 4.9 cm.

An identical clocks are illustrated in “Omega, A Journey Through Time” book by Marco Richon, page 189. The 59 8-D SCS caliber (59 mm, 8 days, jumping center seconds) was patented on the 17th August 1942 (Swiss patent No. 229234), published January 3rd,1944 under the title (in French) “Timekeeper with Center Seconds”.

Clock is in overall great condition 8/10, running and ready to use or gift!
