Ultra-Rare ZODIAC Genuine Elephant Skin Dial & Bracelet Automatic Wristwatch from BaselWorld 1976.
A true grail for collectors – this avant-garde oversized Zodiac Ref. 332.666 😈 is unlike anything you’ve seen before. Featuring a genuine elephant leather dial and bracelet, this striking stainless steel self-winding wristwatch pushes the boundaries of watch design. Likely produced in very few examples, it was presented at the European Watch Clock and Jewellery Fair (BaselWorld) in 1976, showcasing Zodiac’s bold, experimental vision of the 1970s.
Fitted with a Cal. 33, based Eta 2670, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, self-winding, straight line lever escapement, flat balance spring, monometallic balance, shock-absorbers, snap-on case back. Dial, case and movement signed. Dim. 30 x 36 mm. Thickness 10 mm.
What truly sets this watch apart is the seamless integration of the elephant skin dial with the bracelet, framed by a bold “Royal Oaky” screwed stainless steel 30x36mm bezel. The result? A design that is both raw and sophisticated, blurring the lines between haute horology and avant-garde craftsmanship. After extensive research, I’ve found no other examples of this model—only a single mention with a photo in the Europa Star & Swisstime archives from 1976 (see second photo).
This is more than just a timepiece—it’s a piece of horological history, representing an era when Zodiac wasn’t afraid to innovate, using exotic materials and cutting-edge designs that remain unmatched even today. A perfect blend of rare materials and innovative design, yet an ethically controversial timepiece. Would you wear this unique watch?
Due to CITES regulations, elephant leather is protected under international conservation laws, making shipping outside Switzerland and EU quite complicated. This watch is available for pickup in Geneva or shipping within Switzerland or EU. Other destinations are to discuss.
Watch is in overall great condition 9/10, never polished sharp case, running and ready to wear or gift!
