Elegant, new old stock, fine, self-winding ANDERSEN Genève, “Communication” 24h World Time 18k yellow gold gentleman’s wristwatch. Produced in the 1990’s. Comes with original box and certificate of origin with 2 years warranty until July 2022, bears the actual autograph of master Svend Andersen.
The watch is inspired by the original design of the very famous Louis Cottier 1940s World Time watch. In 1946, just after WW2, some wealthy Geneva residents commissioned Mr. Cottier, the inventor of world-time mechanism to build his world time wristwatch and given to the leaders of the Allied Forces as a token of appreciation. So, Presidents Truman, DeGaulle, Winston Churchill & of course Joseph Stalin were given this precious watch.
C. three-body, solid, polished, revolving bezel with engraved names of 31 cities around the world, teardrop lugs. D. blue with golden world map with applied gold radial non-numerals indexes, outer revolving ring dial with the nocturnal and diurnal hours. “Dauphine” gold hands. M. Cal. F. Piguet 951, rhodium-plated, “fausses côtes” decoration, lever escape-ment, monometallic balance, 5 adjustments, shock-absorber, self-compensating flat balance-spring. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 32 mm.
This is a highly collectible timepiece as Svend Andersen is a well regarded independent watchmaker from the prestigious AHCI & watches. Svend ANDERSEN launched his own workshop in the late 70’s after having spent 9 years at Patek Philippe. He started his career as independent watchmaker by first manufacturing cases for Italian collectors. Satisfied with the high quality of the work, the watch collectors started to ask for their own bespoke timepieces (called “pièce unique”). Since then ANDERSEN Genève has been developing complicated watches like the annual calendar, perpetuel calendar, and jumping hour calendar.
