Jaeger Lecoultre GEOPHYSIC Sputnik Box, 1958

CHF 2,800

Sold

Very rare original vintage JLC “Sputnik” box created for Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic Chronometer Watch, Ref. E168, one of the rarest and collectable boxes ever made. These special handmade sputnik-shaped boxes were proposed only for most noble persons and for special occasions. Actually only few (less than 10) boxes are known to collectors, for example two of them with 18K Geophysic watches was presented to the Commanders William R Anderson and J.F Calvert during a ceremony on the 16th of December, 1958 in recognition of the historic conquest of the North Pole in August 4th 1958. Since only few these boxes were made, there is a quite high chance this is one of two actual boxes that was presented to the commanders.

Dimensions: 11 x 9 cm. Watch box in a good 7/10 condition, shows some wear and tear.
