Mint Girard-Perregaux pour Ferrari Sport Timer Limited Edition Stopwatch No. 418, Ref. 89600.0.12.6156. Limited production of less than 1’000 pieces in 1990s. Encased in a lightweight titanium case, tempered to give a satin-like yet hard-wearing matte surface finish. The timer comes in its original wooden presentation box, with all documents and even a brown leather lanyard, which snaps on to the crown attachment.
Following the acquisition of Girard-Perregaux by Luigi ‘Gino’ Macaluso, an Italian entrepreneur who had a strong passion for motorsport, including a career as a Fiat Works rally navigator, it was hardly surprising that a partnership was announced with Ferrari in 1994 to craft time pieces of the highest quality for the famed sports car manufacturer. Girard-Perregaux produced several wristwatches for Ferrari over a ten-year period, but only one model of stopwatch. This example is no. 418 of less than 1,000 pieces produced, was presented to “Ferrari Owners’ Club Switzerland” member in October 1997.
This Sport Timer would make for a fantastic piece in any Ferrari memorabilia collection or even for practical use at the racetrack, as intended.
