An extremely fine and very rare 18K gold anti-magnetic chronometer wristwatch with indirect sweep centre seconds and stop-seconds device (AKA “dead second”). Signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, Chronometre, Geophysic model, ref. E168, movement no 1’331’765, case no. 747’356, manufactured in 1958. Fully serviced 10 Nov 2005 by Jaeger Lecoultre. Movement: cal. 478BWSbr, manual, 17 jewels, soft iron Farraday cage, signed. Dial: signed, luminous sword hands. Case: screw back, 35 mm. diam., signed. With: Jaeger-LeCoultre Sputnik box, Extract from the Archives confirming manufacture of the present watch in 1958 and service warranty.

Famous “Sputnik” box is one of the most rare and collectable boxes ever made by Jaeger Lecoultre. These special handmade sputnik-shaped boxes were proposed  only for most noble persons and for special occasions.  Actually only 4 boxes are known to collectors, two of them with 18K Geophysic watches was presented to the Commanders William R Anderson and J.F Calvert during a ceremony on the 16th of December, 1958 in recognition of the historic conquest of the North Pole in August 4th 1958.

CONDITION REPORT

In fully working order. Fully serviced in Jaeger LeCoultre in Nov 2005 by previous owner, including movement service, case re-polishing and dial restorations (warranty paper is available). Mint condition, only one minor practically invisible surface scuff on the caseback. Original rare Sputnik box and extract from archive.
