MERSMANN 18K Coin, Cal. F.Piguet 99

CHF 3,500

Sold

Very rare and fine keyless, 18K solid gold purse watch set into a U.S. 20 Dollar coin dated 1887, retailed by prestigious boutique Mersmann, Lugano in 1925. Features extremely rare ultra-slim manual wound movement made by Frédéric Piguet (now Blancpain) calibre 99. This calibre was in development as early as 1911, and on the market by at least 1925. Movement F. Piguet 99 was also used by Patek Philippe for its ultrathins as calibre Patek Philippe 177. Calibre FP 99 could be considered the archetype of ultrathin handwinds, with a history going back to dawn of the wristwatch era.

Concealed inside 35mm coin: a small manual wound watch that is only accessible by pressing a hidden recessed push button that only visible upon very close inspection. After carefully pressing the hidden button with your nail, the hinged top — obverse side — will then reveal a beautifully finished swing-out watch with winding crown at 1 o’clock. The small watch with an 18K yellow gold case, features a gorgeous matte off-white dial with gilded batons and needle-shaped hands.

Watch is in overall good condition, running and ready to use!
